The novel,Moby Dick,was written by Herman Melville,an American writer,and it was published in 1851 after sixteen months of writing.It is considered to be one ofthe great American novels and a treasure of world literature.The story tells the adventures of sailor Ishmael, and his voyage on the whaleship Pequod,commanded by Captain Ahab.In a previous encounter,the whale destroyed Ahab's boat and bit off his leg,which now drives Ahab to take revenge.Ahab decide to catch the beast and destroy it,so he and his team of whaling look for it around the world.During the sea travel,they also killed many whales,however,he still instited to kill it.after it was traced,all the crew except Ishmael were dead.Through realistic storytelling,symbolic allegory,and allusive and figurative language,Melville achieves in Moby Dick special intensity that readers will marvel at.In a word,it is a unparalleled sea epic.
