To my opinion："Summer"在这里直译为本意“夏季”即可。

Summer 前面加定冠词“The”还有一层意思：用于表示一个人的“黄金时代,鼎盛时期”，一开始我也是有点confusing，不过稍微了解了下Mandela的生平，不难判断此处应理解为夏季。请关注以下这则新闻以及我用黑色圈出的文字。



6月8号入院，9月1号出院，正好就是一个夏季。"it became only more clear"用于强调Mandela在生命垂危之际，他为反种族隔离和捍卫人权所作出的杰出贡献，更加得到人们的观注和尊重。
